I remember a time....

... when one could travel from Dublin to France for affordable fares. I've just booked my plane ticket to Lyon for this summer, and the fares have gone mad! Actually, not only the fare, but the taxes are more than doubling the price.
Anyway, my flight is booked and I'll be in Lyon for the first week of July... it's nowhere exotic and I'd rather go to San Francisco or Reykjavik but that'll do for now.

For now my life is all about work, but I'm not complaining. My new managerial position is quite stressful and busy, but very interesting. I gave my first recruitment interview today :-)
So I don't seem to have much of a life at the moment. Enough to go to the theatre (Waiting for Godot... which I completely forgot was originally written in French) and a few nights down the pub for the leaving party of a lad I worked with and who became a great friend. Funny how all the people I like seem to always be going away at some point. And it is hard to keep in touch on the long run when you're away... well, life is all about people coming and going, and leaving good memories. Most of the time anyway.

So there.
Elvis keeps coming back these days. He's feeling more and more at home. Sometimes too much to my liking, but I guess he understood there's no messing with me! I kicked him out of the appartment the other day, Tom was cooking seafood and the poor thing couldn't handle himself anymore. He went mental over the food, jumping all over the place... So, out kitty! That'll teach you! Apart from that, he's very much a cat, and very much likes to sleep on my chair, eat the food and leave when he's full and rested... fuckin' opportunist....

Elvis came to visit me last night...

Elvis is a cat. A white domesticated cat that lives in the neighbourhood and once jumped into my flat through my ground-floor window.
Since then he's come back a few times. We play together and I rub his belly.
Elvis was anonymous when I first saw him, so I had to give him a name. This is actually what I wanted to call my future son but since it might be a traumatic name to give a child (although it does sound cool), I gave it to the cat.
I've even bought cat food for when he comes over... Actually it might be a she, I'll have to check again, but with domesticated pets, you can't tell anymore.
So Elvis came to visit me last night, after ignoring me for a week. So I was relieved to see he still likes me, eating the food, scratching my carpet and rubbing his arse on every piece of furniture, leaving his hairs all over the place... I missed him!

Journal d'un remplaçant

La BD très touchante et très humaine d'un maitre remplaçant... C'est dingue ce que des personnages en forme de patates peuvent transmettre comme émotion, et donner une nouvelle image des fonctionnaires de l'éducation nationale.

The new face of US neo-nazism

An article in a magazine scared the shit out of me.
Introducing Prussian Blue, a pair of gorgeous blond-haired, blue-eyed teenage twin girls, somewhat reminiscent of the Olsen twins but in a trash/neo-nazi version of it.
These two musically untalented kids spread the word of hate in their folky songs (albums only available online) and tour around the world among skin-headed and rangers-wearing crowds.
Very freaky.
Obviously, this dubious ideology was taught to them since birth by their mother who prides herself that the girls possess "ideal eugenic" qualities and took them out of school because they were befriending non-white children.

Since I believe you need to know your enemy before trying to fight it back, you can learn more here, here and there.

Recovering

It's been a while since I last published on this blog, but I'm back with a vengeance.
I've had friends over from France last week, and we've been around places: wicklow Mountains (including Johnny Fox's), Galway, Connemara and The Burren. I was also in Paris for two days last week on a business trip, so I'm happy to stay home today and relax a little, especially with the cold I've caught.
Oh, and THE news: I got promoted two weeks ago to a Team Leader position, finally! So no more job hunting for now!
